Beauty pageants and Palestinian hijackers

DNAinfo.com briefly profiled a Washington Heights woman named Merlix Ventura, who will compete in an upcoming Miss New York pageant, and maybe go on to bigger "Miss" events.

She's a student at CCNY pursuing a major in political science and a minor in Jewish studies, and when she was younger she posed wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the face of Leila Khaled, the PFLP's favorite Kalashnikov-toting hijacker:

DNAinfo.com didn't remark on the t-shirt, but the photo's original caption reads: "At the age of 14 Merlix Ventura (right) co-founded a non-profit called in Da Urban Butterflies, which supports young women of color."

If you want controversy to dog your aspirations, make sure you have a photo like this somewhere floating on the Internet. Neo-conservatives didn't have any trouble dreaming up conspiracy theories when Rima Fakih won Miss U.S.A.

This story strikes me as prime Mark Tracy bait. Maybe Goldblog.
I gotta stop writing about pageants.

this girl goes to my school and although i don't know her, i'm almost embarassed for her.

That you alluded to her wearing an t-shirt with questionable figure, and secondly that she was quoted as wanting to have dinner with hitler because she wanted to "know the reason" for wanting to cause genocide, sort of a lame answer.
